We wrote about MegaFon and MTS separately because those operators really do interfere. For Beeline the honest answer is different: in our measurement it did not interfere at all. So this piece is not about the operator — it is about where the cause actually hides.

What our measurement on Beeline showed
In our July 2026 measurement in Moscow we ran the same phone and the same profile through three networks in a row. Beeline was the control there: the connection came up without any mimicry, the handshake went through, traffic lived and did not drop. On MegaFon, under the same conditions, the connection did not come up at all; on MTS it came up and died after two or three seconds.
That is one measurement, one city and one month — not a verdict on the operator forever. But the practical conclusion holds: if a VPN does not work for you on Beeline, the operator is not the first place to look.
Why Beeline looks different
A mobile operator interferes not by “banning VPNs” but by looking at the shape of the first packets and dropping the ones it recognises. On MegaFon you see it immediately: the connection will not stand up until the app changes the shape of the first packet. On MTS the interference hits the already established stream. In our measurement Beeline did neither.

Yota, SberMobile, T-Mobile are not Beeline
Russia has four physical mobile networks: MTS, MegaFon, Beeline and Tele2 (a.k.a. t2). The other names are virtual operators riding someone else's towers: Yota runs on MegaFon's network, T-Mobile and SberMobile on Tele2's. With a virtual operator's SIM, expect the behaviour of the parent network rather than of the name printed on the SIM. There is no guarantee: a virtual operator can have its own gateway.

What breaks a connection when the operator is not to blame
In descending order of how often we see it in support:
- “Connected” but no internet. The badge proves nothing — why it happens and how to tell.
- The connection drops by itself. Several different causes, each with its own cure — a breakdown by cause.
- Pages hang halfway while small ones open. That is what a wrong MTU looks like — what it is and why 1420 is too big.
- Connecting takes a long time. How long it should take with us and what stretches it — the connect-time measurement.
What to do when Beeline will not connect
- Check whether the connection is genuinely alive. Not by the badge — four checks in a minute.
- Compare with Wi-Fi. Works on Wi-Fi but not on mobile — it is the network after all; works nowhere — it is the configuration or the account.
- Do not change the port. We measured that separately on MegaFon: the port does not change the outcome. “Switch to 443” travels around forums, but it did not hold up for us.
- Let the app walk through the paths. Mayak does not stick to one route and shows on screen which one you are on.
