Happ on a TV: which TVs have it, how to pass a subscription, and when an own app is simpler

People want Happ on their TV for an obvious reason: it already works on the phone, and they want the same on the big screen. Below: which TVs have Happ at all, how to pass it a subscription without typing a long link with the remote, what we have not tested ourselves, and when Mayak's own app is the simpler choice on Android TV. Everything here is as of 4 October 2026.

In short. Per the publisher's documentation, Happ exists for Android TV sets (from Google Play or as an APK file) and as a separate app for Apple TV. There is none for Samsung on Tizen or LG on webOS. Happ on a TV takes a subscription from a phone via a QR code or through the publisher's site with a code from the screen. We have not tested Happ on a TV. On Android TV, Mayak has its own app: you sign in with an on-screen code and pass no link — that one we have tested.

We make Mayak, a private network with its own app for Android and Android TV; on a TV you sign in with a code from your phone. This article is about Happ on a TV in general; one section is about us.

Which TVs have Happ

What matters is not the TV brand but the system inside it. How to find out is explained in “A VPN on a TV”; here is what exists for each:

TV systemHappMayak
Android TV and Google TV Yes, per the publisher's documentation: the same app as on phones, from Google Play or as an APK file. Android TV 5.0 or newer Own app from Google Play or as a file from our site, sign-in with an on-screen code. Android 7.0 or newer
Apple TV A separate app, “Happ - Proxy Utility for TV”, available in the Russian App Store. Per its store page, tvOS 17.6 or newer No app
Samsung (Tizen), LG (webOS), Hisense (VIDAA) The publisher does not list these systems No app; you need a set-top box: what Samsung and LG owners can do

How to install Happ on Android TV

The steps below follow Happ's own documentation. We have not gone through them on a real TV, so the labels on your screen may differ.

  1. Install Happ. From Google Play on the TV: the listing is called “Happ - Proxy Utility”, the developer is shown as HappDev, and the developer details list the site happ.su and the company Flyfrog. No Google Play, or Happ not found there? The Happ.apk file is on the publisher's GitHub page (Happ-proxy/happ-android); how to install a file on a TV from a USB stick is explained step by step.
  2. Send the subscription from your phone. On first launch Happ on the TV shows a QR code. Open Happ on your phone on the same Wi-Fi network, scan the code and choose what to send. If the home network does not let it through, the app offers to send it over the internet.
  3. Or through the publisher's site. On the import screen choose “Web Import”: the TV shows a temporary code. Open tv.happ.su in any browser, enter the code and paste the subscription link.
  4. Pick a server and switch the connection on. The first time, Android asks for permission — the usual system dialog.

What happens to the subscription link

A subscription link is the key to your access: whoever gets it can connect and take a slot in your plan. On a TV this matters, because both convenient ways of passing it do not go direct:

  • QR code from the phone — the link travels from Happ on the phone to Happ on the TV, and over the internet if the home network did not let it through.
  • “Web Import” — you paste the link on the publisher's site, and it passes through its server. What that server does with it is up to the publisher, not us.
  • Typing the link with the remote — direct, but that is several dozen characters on an on-screen keyboard.

If the link reaches strangers, change it in your account: the old one stops working at once. More on subscriptions and where to get one — in “Subscriptions and keys for Happ”.

Happ on Apple TV

For Apple TV the publisher has a separate app, “Happ - Proxy Utility for TV”. Unlike Happ for iPhone, it is in the Russian App Store: that is what Apple's catalogue said on 4 October 2026 (version 0.18.0, free). It takes a subscription the same two ways: a QR code from Happ on a phone on the same Wi-Fi, or “Web Import” on the publisher's site.

One caveat for iPhone owners: the QR route needs Happ on the phone, and it is not in the Russian App Store (what to do about that). That leaves “Web Import”. Mayak has no app for Apple TV, and we have not tested Happ on Apple TV.

Plan slots: a TV is a separate device

  • A TV with Happ takes a plan slot, like a phone. Happ on the phone and Happ on the TV are two slots, even with one link (how many a plan has).
  • The servers did not load and our page asks you to add a device — the app did not say which device it is on. In your account, on the “Connecting by link” card, press “Add a device”: the TV will get its own link.
  • Opening the link in a browser does not take a slot. A slot is taken by the device whose app loaded the servers from it.

Mayak's own app on Android TV: why it is simpler

If your TV runs Android TV or Google TV, you have a choice. Here is how the two differ in practice:

HappMayak
How access arrives A subscription link: QR from the phone, the publisher's site, or the remote An eight-character code on the screen, confirmed from the phone or your account. No link
Connection paths One method from the link — X-ray The same app as on the phone: several paths, tried automatically
Russian services outside the tunnel Happ routing profiles (per the publisher's documentation, not tested) The “RU Apps” switch (what it is)
Android version needed Android TV 5.0 or newer (per documentation) Android 7.0 or newer
What we tested Nothing: not tested on a TV Install, code sign-in and connection on an Android TV emulator; in use on TCL, Haier, Xiaomi, Sber and HKC sets

What it looks like: create the account on your phone or in your account area, install “Mayak Networks” on the TV from Google Play (or as a file from mayak.ws/dl/app), open it — the screen shows a QR code and an eight-character code. On the phone: Mayak → Settings → “Sign in a TV”, or use your account in any browser. The code changes every five minutes. Step by step — in the TV article.

When Happ still makes more sense: you have an Apple TV, where we have no app; or an old Android 5–6 box our app will not install on. Otherwise, pick whatever suits you: the TV takes one plan slot either way.

Try it on your own TV. Create an account on your phone or in your account area, install Mayak on the TV and sign in with the on-screen code. We ask for no payment details for the trial. A confirmed email opens the access — 3 free days on two devices: a phone and a TV both fit.

What we checked

  • Where Happ exists and how it takes a subscription on a TV — from the publisher's documentation (the Android TV, Apple TV and system requirements pages), read on 4 October 2026.
  • Happ for Apple TV in the Russian App Store — from Apple's catalogue, 4 October 2026: present, version 0.18.0, tvOS 17.6 required per its store page.
  • Happ's Google Play listing and the GitHub file — 4 October 2026: developer HappDev, contacts happ.su and Flyfrog; Happ.apk from release 4.6.1 of 30 September.
  • Mayak on Android TV — on an emulator (Android 14, release build): install, code sign-in from a phone and connecting to “Protected”, early September 2026. In use as of 18 September 2026 on TCL, Haier, Xiaomi, Sber and HKC TVs and on set-top boxes.
  • That a TV with Happ takes a plan slot — from our server code.

What we do not know

  • How Happ works on a TV with our link. Not tested on Android TV or Apple TV: the steps above follow the publisher's help pages and have not been checked on a real device.
  • Whether Happ on a TV reports which device it is. If not, “Add a device” in your account helps.
  • What the publisher's site does with the link during “Web Import”. It is their server, not ours.
  • Which tvOS version is really needed. The App Store page says 17.6, the publisher's documentation says 15.
  • How the connection will behave on your network. Only you can see that. If you have tried Happ on a TV, tell us the model and what happened, and we will add it.

Quick answers

How do I install Happ on a TV? On Android TV — from Google Play or as an APK from the publisher's page, then send the subscription by QR code from your phone. On Apple TV — a separate app from the App Store.

Can I download Happ on a Samsung or LG TV? No: the publisher does not list those systems, and we have no app for them either. What is left.

How do I send a Happ subscription to a TV? Scan the QR code on the TV screen with Happ on your phone on the same Wi-Fi, or enter the code on the publisher's site. Remember that the link is the key to your access.

Do I need a phone? For Happ, not necessarily: the publisher's site also opens on a computer. For Mayak, neither: the on-screen code can be confirmed in your account from any browser.

Happ on the TV does not see the subscription. Open the link in a browser: our page names the reason in words. The general checklist is in “Happ is not working”.

Which is better on Android TV — Happ or Mayak? For our subscription, our own app is simpler: no link to pass, several connection paths, and we have tested it. Happ makes more sense on Apple TV and on old Android.
